October is an important month in that it celebrate’s an awareness to stop bullying. A theme that permeates our campus is always kindness and respect, here, at SFA. However, this week, we made a specific effort to concentrate on making anti-bullying more of an awareness. It started with student council distributing blue ribbons to the entire school, continued with an out-of-uniform where students wore blue to show our solidarity against bullying and ended with the whole school signing a pledge to be a buddy and not a bully! We also recited the pledge as a whole school, while raising our right hand, to help solidify our stance. We used the pledges to make a wall of promises to remind our students to live a life of kindness and respect for all. As our role model Pope Francis, whom also bears the name of our Patron Saint, so eloquently stated, “We have observed that, in society and the world in which we live, selfishness has increased more than love for others, and that men of good will must work, each with his own strengths and expertise, to ensure that love for others increases until it is equal and possibly exceeds love for oneself.” Our goal, here at SFA, is not only to create learners and leaders that will tackle, with grace, the 21st Century and world ahead of them- which holds an abundance of possibilities – but to do so in a way that does not neglect the well-being of others.
